B- is for Borough Market.

 IMG_9891

Apologies on the last post of this series, due to the busyness of Christmas I completely lost track of time, but now I finally have the choice to explore London again. Borough Market is now an essential part to my Saturday morning, especially it's a matter of walking distance... who thought I would want to wake up early in the morning!

Just in time for any of you reading this on a Friday, or later on in the week you must cancel any plans you have on Saturday morning. It is on other other days, see the times here, but Saturday is definitely my favourite.

For me before coming to London if somebody said the word to market to me I would dismiss the idea. That's probably because I've not had the opportunity to experience one like Borough Market, and the fact it's around 10 minute walk from where I'm living at the minute is absolutely fab! Maybe not good for my waistline when it comes to pain au chocolats being a regular occurrence on a Saturday morning.

Besides the beauty of the market itself (gosh, who thought I would be describing a market as beautiful) the fact its all fresh produce and a lot cheaper than say Tesco and Sainsburys when it comes to fruit and veg, especially Strawberries. What was also nice for me was to see a little touch of home with the "Boston Sausage" which is a butchers back home, which was a nice pleasant surprise to see. Not because it's from home but we do the best.. ever! I mean they wouldn't be selling all way the way in London.. and that's over 130 miles.!

Whilst I don't have a massive budget to spend on food (I know I said it was cheap, but just for basics for me), just yet, Borough Market will be something when I'm older I will come to for inspiration to rustle up an amazing meal.

I reccommend going on a morning, rather than an afternoon. Mind you all depends if you want to soak up the atmosphere as I prefer it when it's pounding with people, as it all makes you realise how iconic and special it is to Londoners and also tourists. Or you could spend a nice afternoon for some cheap lunch then a stroll down the Southbank, maybe a bit later in year for the last bit so you're not freezing your toes off!.

Also a while back on my travels round London I found an a street art installation down Southwark Street (I think, don't quote me on that) I came across the 'Before I die' installation, and was sad that I couldn't find it, and today I found it in Borough Market. It's such an interesting read, even if there are some immature people writing it, but oh well, can't please everyone!

One final thing for you, the closest tube stops to the market is Borough, and London Bridge.. just to help you out. (You're welcome.. haha!)

Stay tuned for next week when the rest of the A to Z continues.. this will be a weekly series from now on.. Sorry it's taken me so long to do! Definite slap on the rest for me.
