Step Into Spring // Make-up

IMG_1299This will be the start to a new series of posts that will show how I'm making changes for spring / summer for beauty, fashion, life and food.

It wasn't till the other day when I questioned my everyday make-up routine, I don't know if I'm the only one (holla at me if you agree) but sometimes I find black mascara and eyeliner a bit too much for my skin. It might be because I'm one of the palest folk out there, plus I'm ginger (what more could go wrong, jokes!) but sometimes it's just too dark and intense, especially as it's spring / summer coming up soon.

Don't get me wrong I love the whole 1960's winged eyeliner and cut crease, but I realised I needed to make my make-up look, especially for spring / summer more natural. So here's a few changes I have made to my look:

1.) Brown is the new black

IMG_1306Switch your mascaras and liquid eyeliner to brown,  if your pale and ginger like myself the browns will help highlight your features especially with the other colours, for example with your eyeshadow. This will create a more softer make-up look, and add more warmth to your face,  for summer I want to keep it minimal as possible. I will then use black mascara for evenings and special occasions to make a difference to my look, rather than my everyday look. - Seventeen Falsifeye Hd Mascara and Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner

2.) A lighter and dewy base

Ditch the powders, highlighters and foundation with less is coverage are a must (or tinted moisturiser). I'm currently on the hunt for a good tinted moisturiser but in the mean time, my Rimmel Match Perfection foundation is fab, and with an SPF18 (thank the lord, protection for us ginger and pale folk) and "light perfecting radiance" provides a dewy finish. For summer you want your skin to easily breath and not only that allow the sun to hit the skin without sweating your foundation off.

Beforehand I would apply my Kiko Face Skin Glow, with SPF 10 (woo, more protection). Helps brighten the face, which for someone like myself makes my skin appear more awake and less dull, the perfect lightweight moisturising highlighter for the base.

3.) More natural & pink tones

When it comes to lipstick I'm still  fan of my Mac Lustre Lipstick 'LoveLorn' with Bourjois 3D Effect Lip Gloss ‘Rose Hypothetic’ so nothing has changed there but in terms of eyes that's a whole different story.

Previously stated I love a cut crease and a smokey eye, and I will still appreciate them in the summer just with more muted shades. In terms of my Naked 1 Palette and Soap and Glory Perfect Ten palette I will use the shades on the left of the palette. because especially the vanilla and virgin helps brightens the eyes, while the pink tones of minky and sin will go nicely in the crease, for a softer smokey eye.

Thanks for having a little read through my blog I really appreciate it, I would love to know any products you love this spring or if you love these!

  2. Hey siobhan, great post! How's the pigmentation on that soap and glory palette?

  3. Hey, thank you! Going to be completely honest the matte shades are more pigmented, as the shimmer shades have a lot of fall out. The colours are more appealing for me then the application, however if it wasn't for the 3 for 2 offer... I wouldn't recommend buying this by itself as there are better eye-shadow palettes around, even though I still like it, there's just better ones :)
