As you may or may not be aware, one of my new years resolutions was to try more food! Since being at university and spending time with different people I've grown to experience different food, I mean it may not seem different to you but this is a BIG deal for me, as I used to be a fussy eater. Prime example; I was the kid that brought her own sandwiches to birthday parties because I "didn't like any". Whilst it's good to stick to the norm when it comes to food, I find it really satisfying when you find something you new you like!
(if you're hungry look away! Overload central of food photos)
Here are a few restaurants over the past few months I've had the opportunity to go and definitely recommend:
1.) San Carlo Cicchetti- Covent Garden
After tracing round Covent Garden for ever! Just off it me and Jess spotted San Carlo Cicchetti, and let's just say you walk in there being treated by waiters straight away, such a pleasant welcome! Which I always love.. the interior of chandeliers and marble walls gave the illusion of a cruise ship, anchored (lol boat joke) with the waiters uniform they could kid anyone! We decided to split the seafood platter with chargrilled langoustines, scallops in a butter and tarragon sauce and mussels and clams in a chilli, tomato and garlic sauce. If you asked me two years ago would I eat this, I would have said hell no.. but oh my gosh! I've never felt full in such a light way.. rather than eating a dirty burger and feeling full. Best service in terms of the waiters and the best food I've had in forever!
2.) Bone Daddies- Soho
If you're about to head to Wagmamas for your favourite ramen, STEP AWAY! I repeat step away.. don't get me wrong Wagmamas is fab, but Bone Daddies is insane! I mean you know the food's good when there's a queue outside the door (something I wasn't quite fond of) but I'm glad we waited. I've always been a fan of ramen, and this has to be one of my favourites.. what made the experience even more in enjoyable was the laid back atmosphere from the interior and the "down town New York vibe" I loved the little quirks to the place which involved a Bone Daddies bib for you sloppy eaters, and then a hair tie for us women!
3.) Ping Pong- Near St Pauls
First I'm going to advise you don't go to the St Paul's one! (unless the service has changed since Christmas) Unfortunately very poor service, which led to so many confusions of where and how do we order, not good for your first visit. However again me being experimental I thought I'd let that minor error slide. Dim Sum is never something I've had before, but I will definitely experience again (maybe at a different branch) What I liked about this place was that it catered set menus for different amounts of people, which was perfect for us two! Great value for money!
4.) Smack Deli- Just off Bond Street // Oxford Street
When I say the name Smack Deli I just say it with such a powerful force, I have no clue why though!?! (interesting fact of the day for you... not!) . Basically lobster rolls and courgette fries are to die for, and well I wish I could live off them. Why pay around £5-£6 for a Mcdonalds which isn't satisfying when you can pay £7 - £9 for something more enjoyable and different! Another favourite part of Smack Deli, was the casual vibes inside by ordering at the till, then waiting at the side kind of like a school canteen.. which you can also see from the interior pic! I had the California lobster roll with lobster filling, salad, herbs and a lemon mayonnaise with a side of courgette fries.

ohh hey! what a nice surprise this is ;)
ReplyDeleteIn terms of really central London, only slight problem it's a chain and I can't remember if there's any in Manchester.. but the veggie dishes at Wahaca I had the winter vegetable tacos. Also if Mexican appeals then Las Iguanas is better with more variety..
I'm sure you've heard about The Good Life by bloggers but I haven't been!
My flatmate says for something light.. more for lunch try Tibits just off Regent Street.
Last but not least for something really filling try Sputino.... I was reccommended (lol not personally) by Llymlrs the mac and cheese is heavenly!
Yes, if you're free or near the Southbank / Waterloo area just give me a shout even if it's for a quick drink!
Sorry if I wasn't much help this will be something I must investigate into ;) and then I can let you know more!
